At Stroud School DT is an exciting and practical subject which allows children to make sense of appliances and processes in their environment, via first-hand experiences and exploration.
Children have a natural curiosity as to how and why things work. The teaching of DT extends and enhances this innate curiosity. It provides children with opportunities to apply and develop the skills they have already mastered. DT lessons provide opportunities for work in other curriculum areas, through the use of problem solving methods and taught skills from other subjects.
Included in the DT curriculum is the opportunity to develop cookery skills in our own specially designed cookery room. In their final year the children of Year 8 cook and prepare a three course dinner for their parents in the delightful setting of Highwood House.
At Stroud School we aim to:
Engage the interests of all children and help sustain their motivation and enjoyment of learning;
Maintain and develop the confidence and ability of all children to solve technological problems;
Help develop the social skills necessary to work as a member of a team, as well as the ability to work independently when the situation demands;
Stimulate curiosity, imagination and creativity;
Promote the ability to communicate ideas and information through a variety of media;
Develop an appreciation of the importance of quality;
Develop the ability to identify safety hazards and risks and take appropriate action;
Provide the opportunity to design for, and consider the needs of, other people.
