History

History at Stroud is closely linked to the National Curriculum. Studying history should be about attempting to investigate historical situations and events to help understand the past and its relevance in the world today.

Children will be given the opportunity to understand who they are as individuals and members of society, based on their studies of past cultures, beliefs and organisation of politics.

To enable the children to achieve this they will be encouraged to research, present, discuss, form opinions and reach conclusions.

ICT will be incorporated as a tool to assist learning throughout the school.

From the Foundation Stage until the end of Pre-Prep, history at Stroud is approached in an informal way through discussion, stories and the study of artefacts where appropriate.

In Middle School topics are more specific. Children are encouraged to start taking a responsibility for independent research as well as contributing to class topics.

Children in Senior School would be expected to develop these research skills further to enable them to investigate a variety of sources and communicate their findings and opinions in a confident and informal manner.

Children are assessed both formally and informally to enable the teacher to plan further lessons effectively.
