At Stroud School, we are fully equipped to teach children the many skills needed in ICT to furnish children with the confidence to use a wide range of hardware and software. We have two dedicated, purpose-built ICT suites: one in Pre-Prep, and one for use in Middle and Senior School. Many of our classrooms have interactive whiteboards and all classrooms contain their own computer, linked to our network.
ICT is not only a subject in its own right, but it also has vast cross-curricular links. Children are taught ICT skills during focused lessons, and then they are encouraged to use these skills in order to help them progress in other subjects, for example, to produce a bar chart in mathematics, or to compare places on an aerial map in geography.
At Stroud, children will develop their IT capability, learning how to manipulate information in the processes of problem solving, recording and creative work. We aim to explore children’s attitudes towards ICT, and it’s value for themselves, others and society. Children are also made aware of the advantages and limitations of modern technologies.
Children will be encouraged to work as individuals and in groups, acknowledging the ownership of ideas and recognising the value of information held on IT systems. Children are also taught the importance of security of their own and other people’s information in electronic form, and much emphasis is put on keeping safe when using the internet to communicate.
We believe that ICT is now an integral part of society, and our children leave Stroud with the necessary skills and confidence to succeed in a technology-driven world.
