Modern Foreign Languages

At Stroud School we believe that every child should have the opportunity throughout Key Stages 1, 2 & 3 to study foreign languages and develop their interest in the culture of other nations. If a child's talent and natural interest in languages is to flourish, it is important to provide early language learning opportunities to harness children's learning potential and enthusiasm.

We aim:

To improve the teaching and learning of languages, including delivering a diverse entitlement to language learning for all pupils at Key Stages 1, 2 & 3 and ensuring that the opportunity to learn languages has a key place in the school of the future.

To equip pupils with linguistic and cultural skills to get as much as possible out of holidays in French and Spanish speaking countries, and to facilitate any future interactions they may have professionally with French and Spanish speakers.

To raise awareness of cultural differences between French and Spanish speaking countries and the UK.

To help develop in the children a deep sense of tolerance and understanding of other cultures and nationalities.

To create a sense of achievement and success for pupils of all levels of attainment, differentiating by content, resources, task, support and outcome where relevant and possible.

To use a wide range of techniques and resources which will appeal to different learning styles, and to integrate the use of ICT in language teaching and learning.
