Sport

Sport is an integral part of the curriculum.  We believe that sport can provide lessons for life such as teamspirit, sportsmanship, self discipline and playing within the rules, as well as engendering a positive and healthy lifestyle.

From an early age children are coached by specialist staff in the major sports.  As they progress through the school the boys are engaged in football, rugby and hockey as winter sports, with the girls playing netball and hockey.  Regular cross country as well as on going fitness assessment are incorporated in the PE programme. In the summer the main sports are cricket, athletics, tennis and rounders.  Use of our own heated, outdoor swimming pool is enjoyed by all children in the summer term.

On Wednesdays and Saturdays competitive matches are regularly played against other schools at a variety of ages and abilities.

The multi purpose hall allows for a wealth of sporting opportunities, including a very successful gymnastics and dance programme.  Regular use is made of local astroturfs.  Pupils in Years 7 and 8 have the opportunity to take part in local area mountain biking and wall climbing at Calshot Activity Centre. Year 8 pupils also attend an annual outdoor pursuits weekend.

Within the school grounds is an all-weather riding arena, and a qualified instructor visits the school regularly and coaches the children in riding technique and stable management.

Major events in the school calendar include athletics sports days, swimming sports and gymnastics and dance displays.
