Stroud School

Sports

Sport is an integral part of the curriculum. In addition to the health benefits we believe that sport can provide lessons for life such as team spirit, good sportsmanship, self discipline and playing within rules.

From an early age children are coached by specialist staff in the major sports. As they progress through the school in the winter the boys play soccer, rugby and hockey whilst the girls play netball and hockey. In the summer the main sports are athletics, cricket, tennis and rounders.

MontageThe multi purpose hall creates a wealth of sporting opportunities such as gymnastics and dance for the children. Regular use is made of local astroturfs. Year 8 pupils attend an annual outdoor pursuits weekend.

Children have the opportunity to swim in our own outdoor heated pool during the summer months. Within the school grounds is an all-weather riding arena, a qualified instructor visits the school regularly and coaches the children in riding technique and stable management. On Saturdays and Wednesdays matches are regularly played against other schools at a variety of ages and abilities.

NetballMajor events in the school calendar include sports days, swimming sports and gymnastics and dance presentations.
