Early Years

Prep SchoolAt Stroud School our youngest children begin their school life in a purpose built Early Years Centre designed and built with the child at its heart. The Elizabeth Sanger-Davies Early Years building consists of a bright multipurpose central area, two Nursery rooms and two Reception classrooms leading directly onto a large outdoor learning environment. The physical space both indoors and outside has been planned to enable all children to develop unique first hand experiences.

Our children may enter the Foundation Stage into Nursery in the term in which they turn three years of age, or into Reception in the September following their fourth birthday.

During the Early Years children develop rapidly physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially. These years are critically important for building good foundations for all future learning. We value each year of a child’s life for what it is, precious and unrepeatable.

We provide positive rich experiences for all children, enabling them to access learning that develops and stretches them and excites their imagination.

The Reception children spend one afternoon each week at ‘Forest School’ in the woods at the bottom of the grounds. This is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils, as young children are naturally curious and have an awe-inspiring capacity to make sense of their world, to explore, examine and understand it.

Our children are cared for by a very experienced, highly qualified team of dedicated teachers and learning support staff.
