Eco Schools
The government has designated this year as a year of action for sustainable development in schools. To support this we have registered as an Eco School and are working towards our Green Flag award. The aim is to enable all people in the community and nationally to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life for future generations.
At Stroud we have already formed our eco committee, conducted an environmental review and formed an action plan. Throughout last term we have worked in Wednesday Clubs as Eco Warriors to promote awareness, educate others and improve our environment, already gaining our Silver Award.
We have appointed prefects with specific responsibilities to encourage environmental awareness and eco monitors for each class. During this year we will continue to develop our pond area and are planning to revitalise the rose garden. We had another Green Travel to School Day (Friday October 12th), encouraging lift sharing and other more environmentally friendly journeys. Further work will be carried out to develop nature awareness in our grounds by making bird boxes in Wednesday Clubs.
During this term we will be distributing our harvest produce to local care homes and will once again support Operation Christmas Child with the Shoe Box Appeal. We continue to fund raise for local, national and international appeals at events such as the Christmas charity concert. Book Week this year has ‘The Environment’ as its theme and we will be exchanging our books to promote reuse.
