Pastoral care

Pupils are encouraged to develop a positive self-image and mutual respect in an environment where they feel confident, cared for and have the freedom to enjoy learning. The children become part of a community where they are valued as individuals and meet friendly, caring staff and peers. Pupils have a Form Tutor and Head of Department who look after their welfare and progress on a daily basis. Parents are encouraged to contact the school about any worries and concerns they may have and to meet with the Head of Department or the tutor. Individual learning needs are supported by the Learning Support Department, where staff liaise closely with class teachers and parents to ensure that all children are given the opportunity to succeed.

All pupils follow a course of Personal, Social and Health Education which prepares them to be confident citizens for the future, able to think independently and to make balanced and informed decisions.

Wrap Around Care
There is a qualified nurse in daily attendance who is in charge of all health matters. Strong links are developed between all teaching and non-teaching staff, medical practitioners and clergy, providing a strong support system for our pupils. All children have lunch at school, being served wholesome, healthy meals that are cooked on the premises. Special diets are catered for and a vegetarian menu is available. There is also a breakfast club and after school care.

Section system
Children are placed into one of our 3 sections at the start of Year 3 and the section system is an integral part of life at the school. The sections are Bulldogs, Terriers and Greyhounds and competition is keen in order to achieve the ‘Section Treat’ at the end of each term. Children earn stars for their section and the section with the most stars at the end of the term wins a treat. Recent treats have included ten pin bowling, a summer barbeque and a trip to a local theme park.

Children feel a sense of belonging and community in their sections, and there is a great camaraderie from the pupils when cheering on their peers during inter-section games and sports matches.
