Stroud School

Introduction

Stroud is a Co-educational Day School for children aged 3-13 in a peaceful rural location on the outskirts of Romsey. It is an exciting school full of character and innovation. Children are taught the full range of National Curriculum subjects by highly qualified staff.

Children are admitted to the Nursery the term after their third birthday. They are given a happy start to learning and pursue the Early Learning Goals in a purpose built Early Years Building and stimulating outdoor environment opened in April 2007.

The range of opportunities and activities are many and varied, enabling children to build self-confidence and to realise their full potential. Children are prepared for various entrance exams at 11+ and at 13+ to Swimmingsenior independent schools, but more importantly, we aim to provide a full, all round education. Details of the children’s successes can be found in the curriculum section.

Stroud has an excellent academic record and has similar high expectations in sport, music, drama, the arts and many extra-curricular activities.

The school relies very much on teamwork - the team being made up of teachers, administrative, catering, maintenance and domestic staff. This ethos of working as a team and being considerate of others is stressed throughout the children's education.

A Christian tradition runs through the school; the assemblies are taken by staff, pupils or visiting clergy from local parishes. The annual carol service takes place in Romsey Abbey. Children are made aware of other faiths in their Religious Education Curriculum.

The school was founded at Stroud House, Grayshott, Surrey in 1926. In 1946 it moved to Zeals House, Mere, Wiltshire, and finally settled in 1953 at its present location outside Romsey. In 1958 the school was formed into a Limited Company and has since been under the control of a Board of Governors. The Head is a member of IAPS and the school is accredited by ISC.
